NIPDs Day 3: Delta Govt. Says Polio Vaccines Safe And Free

The Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency says the government and development partners have made Immunization free and safe for children.

The chairman Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Isioma OKobah made the disclosure today while on supportive supervision and monitoring of the ongoing Immunization exercise.



Dr. OKobah said the state government had mobilised health workers to ensure the success of the exercise in the 25 local government areas of the state.

“The agency is working tirelessly in ensuring that children between 0-5 years have unhindered access to polio vaccine and we need a 100 per cent coverage of this four-day immunisation across the 25 LGAs of the state".

“Our dream is to see a Delta and Nigeria that is certified polio free; we must fight anything that is fighting to destroy the future of our children. Polio vaccines are safe and free; the state and development partners have paid for everything”, she said.

The  chairman remarked that the Health For All Deltans policy of the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa -led administration was to have a zero per cent of childhood diseases in the state .

"When a child is fully immunised against childhood diseases, he or she will grow healthy, stronger and happier. A healthy child makes a healthy nation. The exercise is totally free; I urge parents to bring their children out to benefit from the exercise”, she advised.

“Tommorrow is the last day for the Immunization exercise, I urge all care givers and parents to locate any nearest healthcare centre in their locality to benefit from the numerous health care programmes designed for pregnant and nursing mothers,” she added.

Dr. OKobah also reaffirmed that Delta State has recorded another huge success in the enforcement of the second round National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) across the twenty five Local Government Areas of the state.

She was accompanied by her team of directors and health workers including the director of Immunization and Disease Control Dr. Paul Yinkore.

The team went  House to House and schools in Ekiugbo-Iyede in Isoko North LGA, Opukabor Primary School in Patani LGA and also Bomadi LGA, immunizing all eligible children with polio vaccines.

Expressing satisfaction with the Immunization exercise across the State, Dr. OKobah commended the state Governor for his immense contributions towards the success recorded so far in the Immunization programme.
