Onitsha Death: Residents Call On Govt's Intervention

Friends and Relatives Of those who died a few Days ago as a result of the heavy rainfall in Onitsha, Anambra state and other residents of the area, are calling on the government to look into the drainage system which they described as death trap especially when it rains.

It would be recalled that a few days ago, Heavy Rainfall Reportedly dragged not less than 4 persons and Properties worth millions of naira Into the upper Iweka Gutter In Onitsha.

According to our source who narrated the incidence,

"The rain carried their car from ochanja market then dump it inside that big gutter along upper iweka road. Its a pity 1 of them lost her husband 2 years ago leaving behind 2 kids. Uju very jovial woman is no more" the source lamented.

" It's shameful to see how primitive our government does things. Imagine that gutter which is what they use for drainage became a dumping avenue because its open, so citizens will conveniently dump there. Granted they don't have sewage system that have lift pumps to move that amount of water as in civilized nations to a treatment plant, but they can at least cover that death trap and build in good barricade to prevent what just happened. Imagine what they spent to dig that trap"

Among the dead, were three bankers allegedly working with the UBA.
