In Christian theology, the imitation of Christ Jesus is the practice of following the example of Jesus. While the term 'Life in Christ' is sometimes used for the same concept.
In today's political atmosphere, political gladiators have come to realize that they must seek the face of Jesus in their sojourns. One of them is the member representing Ika North East in the Delta state House of Assembly, Hon. Tony Emeka Elekeokwuri.
As an activist and a Journalist, people who know me, know that I am not good at praise-singing. I mostly expose the ills in the society. But it has come to this point where I have to unveil to the world the stuff which the Delta legislator is made of because of his distinctiveness.
Few years ago, Elekeokwuri was one of those politicians I hated with passion because someone blind folded me and made me not to see the good side of Elekeokwuri even to the extent of engaging him in a media war until a day we met at the palace of the Obi of Owa, in presence of the Obi, The Ika Federal House of Reps member, Hon. Victor Nwokolo, and others including his media Aides. Then I became endeared to him not after a heated argument though, which almost resulted in a physical battle with his aide. What led to this, was the issue of who moved a motion for Ika to be included in the DESOPADEC.
Elekeokwuri might not be perfect because even the holy bible lays credence to it that it is only God who is perfect. The man is Godly and when he prays God answers him so fast. Because he prayed for me few weeks ago when I bought my Lexus jeep (with my sweat), and the prayer came to pass and I have lots of testimonies thanks to my friends/families who followed me to church for Thanksgiving.
Elekeokwuri, I am quite certain is one of those that have paid their dues in life of politics as a ticket for a second and more terms in office. I can go to any extent to bet this with anyone because when the king makers in Delta politics speak, it surely comes to pass. And the voice of men is the voice of God ( vox populi, vox dei). Don't get me wrong, I am not one of the king makers.
Elekeokwuri is rated among the best Delta lawmakers who happens to be the first and currently the only legislator that has sponsored a bill into law, in the current Delta state sixth Assembly. What a major achievement for an Economist by educational qualification that legal practitioners now go along with his name. Isn't that what he was sent to the Assembly to do? Yes it was.
As if that was not enough, he has awarded scholarships to deserving students of different levels of education. Even sponsoring them for training internationally and locally. Isn't that Empowerment? Yes it is because this is human capital development or capacity building.
He has supported the SMART agenda of the Okowa administration by working as a team with the governor without ever being faulted. Isn't that solidarity, loyalty and credence?
He has embarked on massive infrastructural development which I can attest to even as I am not his constituent. Construction and Rehabilitation of Roads, Pipe borne Water, (bore hole), Provision of market and resources to traders. Job creation for the youths and others too numerous to mention.
I can give you additional facts and figures on request.
The last corporal and spiritual works of mercy he did, was the assistance he rendered to the market women affected by the rainstorm at Alifekede market in Ika South LGA, which is outside his constituency. This is ministration and 'Life in Christ'.
Elekeokwuri is trying to imitate Christ but let's pray and see how far he can go in this journey as we wish him safe trip.
